Pasta mystery, Nathan Oman's desert adventure

A new pasta dish from Chef Maiyuu. Unfortunately he doesn’t know the name – he just made it up out of his head.

The pasta envelopes, which he made himself, contain a spinach and risotta cheese stuffing. The dish was served on a fresh tomato sauce with sweet basil.

Do any readers know what it might be called?

I have spent the last couple of days looking for a new template for this blog, but have now given up the effort.

I wanted a magazine or gallery style template, but can’t find anything I like, or the instructions for installing the things were unclear.

Oh well, never mind.

Nathan, the desert fisherman

A young Thai actor claims he has been shooting on location in the Middle East for the last six months, making a film with Hollywood stars Bruce Willis and Christina Ricci.

That’s funny – so how come no one has heard of the fantasy epic, The Prince of Red Shoe?

The actor, Nathan Oman (นาธาน โอมาน), says the film is being made by Big Blue, for 20th Century Fox, and is directed by Wolfgang Peterson.

Nathan is a former singer for RS Promotion, and has no prior acting experience. He claims the film is being made based on a story he wrote, and that he was sounded out to play a supporting role.

Early reports claimed Nathan – who describes himself accurately as a ‘nobody’ overseas – is being paid B100m to play in all three instalments.

A quick look at Google tells us what Willis and Ricci have been working on for the last months – and their schedules have not included any desert time, as far as I can tell.

The Manager newspaper spoke to Nathan the other day, shortly after his return from overseas for a break from filming.

Nathan claims he is getting better known in the US, and that Oprah Winfrey plans to invite him and other cast members on to her show when he gets back.

The first instalment is now half done, he reckons. He plays a 15 year-old fisherman, and just before the break was shooting plenty of scenes with Ricci, who plays a queen of the desert type.

At the Manager website and on local webboards, astute Thais are asking whether Nathan hasn’t made it all up.

I haven’t read the whole story, as it goes on too long and looks increasingly like crap the further I get into it. Most suspicious of all are the pictures he has brought along with him from the production.

We are asked to believe that these come from a Hollywood-backed, big-budget movie – so why do the characters look as if they are performing panto? And where’s Christina, Nathan?

Helpfully, Nathan supplies his email address, for anyone wanting a chat. I have sent an email asking if he is legitimate. Anyone else care to have a go?

Nathan’s email, as supplied by the Manager, is NASABIZ@HOTMAIL.COM.

PS: It's possible fantasy films really do look this rough before the special effects people have worked on them. Nathan might like to elaborate, and put us out of our misery.

Hi! It's me again! I think that pasta dish is similar to Empanada that is very popular here in the Philippines. Follow this link and learn more about it (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Empanada). Kindly tell Maiyuu to keep it up. P.S. I really love your blog. - Richard, Philippines

Spinach and ricotta ravioli or Ravioli della puteria, it is more normal to serve it with melted butter in its northern Italian home, but it is nice with a simple tomato ragu as well

Yes, we have a dish here called Ravioli. It's usually meat in the pasta parcels and a tomato sauce.

I wondered where you had got to BD!
I missed you and Maiyuu's cooking of course!

I've seen this film advertised on a few blogs now. There seems to be a lot of hype about it!

Your actor is full of it.

Bruce Willis' docket
# The Last Full Measure (2010) (in production)
# Pinkville (2011) (pre-production) .... William R. Peers
# A Couple of Dicks (2010) (filming)
# Surrogates (2009) (post-production) .... Agent Greer

Christina Ricci
# Long Time Gone (2009) (pre-production)
# Alpha and Omega (2010) (post-production) .... Lilly
# Born to Be a Star (2010) (post-production)
# The Hero of Color City (2010) (post-production) (voice) .... Yellow
# After.Life (2009) (post-production) .... Anna Taylor
# New York, I Love You (2009) (completed) .... Camille (segment "Shunji Iwai")
... aka New York, je t'aime (France: literal title)

Your friend is not a SAG - Screen Actors Guild - member, which he would have to be, to be in a studio production in anything other than as an extra. The Thai actor is not listed in IMDB and Nor is his a WGA - Writer's Guild of America member which he would have to be if he had ANYTHING to to with the script.

I suppose he's just trying to make himself known, but why does he think he can get away with such outrageous claims in this small internet based world is beyond me.
