Unprovoked

In Sydney, it doesn't take much to get st*abbed to d*eath these days.

The younger brother of Korean actor Lee Dong Gun was st*abbed to d*eath, and a Korean male friend critically inj*ured, after an argument with two Chinese boys in Sydney's CBD.

The Koreans, who study in Sydney, were attacked by the Chinese teenagers near the World Square shopping centre, on the corner of Pitt and Liverpool streets, about 1am on Thursday.

One report says the Chinese and Korean boys bumped into each other. 'Why don't you watch where you're going,' asked one of the Koreans.

Another said the Chinese st*abbed the pair because they thought the Koreans were 'looking down' on them.

That's all it took.

Lee d*ied almost instantly, while his friend, Song, staggered into a nearby Korean-run convenience store holding a chest wound and begging for help (see picture). A video surveillance camera filmed him entering the shop before he collapsed.

Parts of the incident were captured on 20 security cameras which keep watch over streets in the area. The fight started outside a fast-food restaurant, where the Koreans had taken a meal, and spread to the other side of the street, where Lee d*ied on the footpath.

The two Chinese fled in a taxi, but a pedestrian took down details and called police. They were caught just 17 minutes after the attack.

Police, who say the attack was senseless and unprovoked, are looking into whether the Chinese teens are tied to Chinese gangs.

The two men charged over the attack, 18-year-olds Michael Lee and Ivan Wong, both of Carlingford in Sydney's north-west, appeared in Parramatta Bail Court via videolink.

They face charges of murder, causing wounding or grievous bodily harm with intent to m*urder, and common assault.

Actor Lee Dong Gun and his parents have travelled to Australia to identify the body.

Lee Dong Gun (pictured) is best-known to Thais for his role in the television soaps, Sweet 18 and Stained Glass, and the movie My Boyfriend is Type-B.

At one Korean webboard, poster fell into an unpleasant race-related squabble, with one saying Chinese were just 'wannabe Koreans'.
